Crisis and austerity
The Con-Dems are hell-bent on destroying our welfare state. From the NHS to state education, everything working class people hold dear is under attack. If the Tories succeed, living standards will plummet in a way not seen since the 1930s.
It doesn’t have to be this way. From bank bonuses to unpaid tax to the billions wasted on war, there is plenty of money out there. Socialist Worker is committed to exposing the insanity of austerity and the possibility of an alternative.
Striking back
To stop these cuts will need struggle on a huge scale. Socialist Worker supports every strike and each manifestation of resistance. We cheered on the students at Millbank, worked hard for the demonstration on 26 March and have argued tirelessly to coordinate strikes to beat the Con-Dems.
The rest of the media condemns the disruption caused by such strikes, but we celebrate the strength and unity they display and argue for extending the action so that we can win.
Anti-racist
We always stick to our principles. When David Cameron uses divide-and-rule to help push through cuts, Socialist Worker stands resolutely opposed to Islamophobia and racism, and in defence of multiculturalism.
We have played a crucial role in exposing the English Defence League as racist thugs and calling for resistance to them wherever they march.
A global struggle
We are living in an era of global turmoil. Revolutions have swept the Middle East and revolts are shaking much of Europe. Socialist Worker has provided in-depth coverage of the Arab revolts and in particular the deepening social roots of Egypt’s revolution.
Socialist Worker is unflinchingly internationalist. We stand with the indignados of Spain, with the rebellion in Greece and with the people of the Arab world as they overthrow US backed dictators and fight for a better society.
The antidote to Murdoch
The right wing media take the side of the rich and powerful – and use the most scurrilous tactics to get their stories. Socialist Worker is proud to take sides in the struggle and proud that our coverage is not compromised by corporate sponsorship or advertising deals.
We rely on our readers and supporters to keep going. Socialist Worker needs you. And if you don’t want to be made to pay for this crisis – you need Socialist Worker.
