The world is in the grip of a massive crisis. Famine and war stalk the globe, unemployment is rocketing, wages and pensions are under threat and evictions are on the rise.
But there is also mass resistance. In Britain there is a resurgence of militant working class struggle. Unofficial action, walkouts and occupations are back. Through such actions, and the political ideas associated with them, ordinary people are challenging the status quo.
Socialist Worker plays a vital role in the development of working class confidence and resistance. We are the newspaper at the heart of every struggle, standing side-by-side with those fighting back and carrying key arguments in the movement. From the university occupations against the Israeli onslaught on Gaza to the factory occupations at Visteon and Vestas, we provided news and analysis to arm people with the information they need. We have tried to generalise struggles which the mainstream media try to suppress.
As the fascist British National Party seek to exploit people's fear and misery for their own ends, Socialist Worker has been at the forefront of the campaign to expose and counter their politics of hate. We were central to the mobilisation of thousands of demonstrators against the BNP's Nazi festival in Codnor that saw them announce they will not come back.
And at a time when the failings of the capitalist system have been exposed for all to see, we provide a strong, clear voice for the socialist alternative.
Resistance to the ravages of capitalism is international, and so is our coverage. Our web site means news and information is available across the globe. We have consistently stood with those fighting imperialism, and as the war in Afghanistan spirals further out of control, our commitment to the anti-war movement is unwavering.
